130423 Can T-ARA Sub-Units Save The Group’s Image?

Written By Regina Kim on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 | 7:12 PM

Can T-ARA Sub-Units Save The Group's Image?

Large idol groups breaking down into sub-units is a common trend these days – the TVXQ-JYJ split, SISTAR19, and Super Junior KRY, M, T and H just to name a few.

Sometimes the creation of the sub-units is the result of the members’ busy schedules not allowing all of them to participate in projects together and sometimes the smaller groups are meant to serve a specific niche market, such as the Chinese-language Super Junior M.

Other times, however, the split comes as the result of scandal – as was the case with the SM Entertainment lawsuit surrounding the three TVXQ members who eventually went off to form the group JYJ under C-JeS Entertainment. The JYJ members Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu said recently in an interview with Yonhap News that they still consider themselves a part of TVXQ, giving fans hope that maybe one day the original five members will reunite to perform together.

But the recent news that the ladies of T-ARA are splitting into two sub-units has many wondering what their management, Core Contents Media, has planned.

It has been a while since a series of bullying scandals among group members broke, and the controversy surrounding Hwayoung’s contract termination has pretty much died down. However, it seems many T-ARA fans are still unsure about their feelings toward the ladies.

T-ARA as a whole have been working on promotions overseas, mostly in Japan, for the past several months, having released their first original Japanese single last month. The song was released in ten different versions: seven regular editions each of which contained a solo song by the individual members, and three special editions that contained an additional song by a sub-unit.

Seems like T-ARA’s agency was doing some market research trying to determine which groupings would yield the best results.

Earlier this month it was announced that a sub-unit named T-ARA N4 (T-ARA Brand New 4) would be debuting in by the beginning of May.The smaller group is meant to show the transformation of the members Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon and Areum.

On April 22, it was also revealed that the remaining three members, Soyeon, Boram and Qri, would be forming their own sub-unit and that their efforts will focus on a Japanese audience.

The girls have also stated that the sub-units are no indication of a permanent split, and insist they will continue working on songs as a seven-member group as well.

After taking a major hit to their fan following and endorsements in the wake of scandal, Core Contents Media seems eager to revitalize the girls’ image in the public eye with these new sub-units.Whether or not the effort will work is yet to be seen, but for the time being it is certainly creating a lot of intrigue.

She continued, “Other than unit group activity, T-ara’s new song came out so we currently are practicing that song as well.”

About the occasion behind the creation of unit groups, Jiyeon said, “Last year in July, the four of us had shown a hip hop performance in Japan. Back then, we told ourselves that we would create a unit group if we ahd the chance, and that chance came through T-ARA N4.”

Teaser for their music video will be released on the 25th through Mnet, and the full music video and the song will be released on the 29th.

Written By Regina Kim on Thursday, April 4, 2013 | 10:45 PM

Seven member girl group T-ara will be making their comeback to Korea as a four member unit group that includes Eunjung, Hyomin, Areum, and Jiyeon. The members have recently completed recording their new song, and will start its promotion sometime soon.

Although T-ara has included sub-unit songs in recent Japanese single, this will be the first time they have created an official unit-group with an independent song.

The new song, titled “Countryside Diary,” was produced by the hit-makerShinsadong Tiger. In the past, Shinsadong Tiger and T-ara have had great success with many songs including “Roly Poly,” “Lovey Dovey,” and “Sexy Love.” Shinsadong Tiger and the new unit group of T-ara hope to make another hit that will be loved by people of all age groups.

The official name of this new group has not been confirmed yet.

130404 Four T-ara ladies form first subunit

Four T-ara members are to form a unit group starting in May.

Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin and Areum were picked for their good chemistry, said the group’s agency, according to a local media report.

This is the group’s first subunit since its debut in September 2009.

It tested the idea while producing an EP in Japan. Members were put in groups of two or three to record “Banista” last month.

Soyeon and Areum, Boram and Qri, and Jiyeon, Eunjung and Hyomin, each made up one team.

The EP was ranked No. 2 on Japan’s Oricon daily chart Wednesday immediately after its release.

Though the unit group has not yet picked any songs, there is speculation that its members will work with music producer Shinsadong Tiger, whose real name is Lee Ho-yang.

The group worked with the composer on other hit songs including “Roly Poly”, “Lovey-Dovey” and “Sexy Love”.

130405 T-ara’s Hyo Min and Infinite’s Woo Hyun Snapped on a Grocery Date?

T-ara’s Hyo Min and Infinite’s Woo Hyun have ′caught′ together.

Though T-ara worked with Infinite’s Woo Hyun and his older brother in March for SBS E!’s T-ara’s Flower Boys, she didn’t work directly as a partner with Woo Hyun.

130404 Music insiders say T-ara’s subunit will make debut with “Country Side Diary”

As mentioned before, T-ara is said to be launching their very own subunit consisting of 4 members, Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Areum, and more details have been revealed regarding this exciting project by music insiders.

After the news was broken by a media outlet last time, their report was later replaced by a random article, leaving fans confused. It seems perhaps that article was just released earlier than the intended time or Core Contents Media was just not ready for the information to be revealed, for now multiple media outlets have all reported on the news of this subunit. According to one new report, the agency is neither denying nor confirming the news now, which seems to indicate that there is definitely some truth to all this.

The information being reported on is pretty much along the lines of the initial report, but now the title of the subunit’s debut track has been revealed!

The track, according to insiders, will be called “Country Side Diary” and it is the work of one of the hottest producer teams these days, Duble Sidekick! (There was one lone report that stated that this song is by Shinsadong Tiger, but it seems to be a misreport as every other report is stating Duble Sidekick).

It’s said that the four girls have already begun preparing for the MV, and that their debut date is aimed for the end of April or the beginning of May!

On March 29, D-Unit posted the following photos on their me2day with the caption, “These pictures were taken at today’s ‘Music Bank‘ recording! In one photo, we have bare faces and in the other we have make-up on. Pure and adorable D-Unit!”

In the first photo, D-Unit is not wearing any makeup or BB cream before going on “Music Bank.” In the second photo, D-Unit is all dolled up and ready to go on stage in the “Music Bank” waiting room. The two photos especially drew interest from netizens for showing almost no visible difference between them except for the girls having a slightly brighter skin tone.

Netizens who saw the photos commented, “They look adorable even without makeup” and “D-Unit looks charming in makeup too!”

In related news, D-Unit will be performing “Talk to My Face” on KBS2 “Music Bank” on March 29.

130331 T-ara’s Eun Jung Speaks Up for the First Time

T-ara’s Eun Jung opened up for the first time since she came under fire regarding Hwa Young’s departure from the team.

On July 31, Eun Jung left on her fansite Eun Jung Chan Yang Dot Net, ‘Thank you, and I’m sorry.’

This was the first statement she made since Hwa Young left T-ara, and is thought to be an expression of the mixed feelings and gratitude she feels toward her fans who continued to support her through the controversy.

Netizens, of course, have sprung to their feet to voice their own opinions on the post. Many fans have shown support, but a majority have been debating what she could have meant.

Everything started when the T-ara members left tweets that were allegedly aimed at Hwa Young, leading to speculation that the member was being bullied by the rest of her team. On July 30, Core Contents Media rep Kim Kwang Soo announced that Hwa Young would be leaving the team and her contract would be cancelled, but the measure only led to more backlash from netizens.

On July 31, T-ara’s agency maintained that it would take strong legal measures against netizens who spread false information. The group was to push through with an appearance at the Expo Super Concert to be held in Yeosu on August 1, but the appearance was cancelled soon after.
