120829 T-ara releases handwritten apology

Girl group T-ara, who has been facing quite a bit of public backlash after bullying controversy, has just released a handwritten apology letter to fans.

Released via their official website on August 29th, the apology letter states:

“We write this letter after much deliberation. The past month has felt longer than the time it took us to debut and the time we've promoted under all of your love. First, we would like to honestly apologize for making so many concerned. We admit that we were immature in not being able to resolve our differences in opinions within the group and letting it out publicly, and we are all reflecting on it together.”

We deeply apologize for acting without thought. If we had understood each other, shared, and acted more maturely, none of this would have happened. We think that thought every day in misery. Looking back, we've always overcome any hardships together while chasing the same dream, and it breaks our heart to think that all of those good memories are being seen in a bad light.”

The letter also noted concerns for former member, Hwayoung, stating, “We also think that Hwayoung must have gone through a hard time for being misunderstood as being ostracized. We were all surprised at a result none of us thought or wanted and feel upset that we can no longer be together again. We hope that Hwayoung no longer has to face any pain again.”

They went on, “We apologize to everyone for concerning everyone with this issue and disappointing those that loved our music. This hardship was an opportunity of learning for us.
We are supposed to be the strength of many, and have now learned how much responsibility we have on our shoulders, as well as how responsibly we must act.”

“To our parents, who live for us, and our fans, who will remain by us until the end to love our music... And to everyone we disappointed, we want to work hard so that our apology will be accepted. We are genuinely sorry. We ask that you also give your everlasting support and love to Hwayoung, who must have had a harder time than us. We will always support Hwayoung no matter what. From all of T-ara.”

120813 Tijinyo Continues to Demand Answers from Core Contents Media

Written By Regina Kim on Monday, August 13, 2012 | 10:23 PM

The T-ara incident has considerably calmed down on the web, but Tijinyo (We Want the Truth from T-ara) and its 340,000 members have still been contacting Core Contents Media to voice their opinions.

The manager of Tijinyo revealed that the café had been keeping in touch with the agency through notices posted on August 10 and 12.

On August 12, the manager opened up on the café’s stance through a notice titled ‘We Wish to Say This to Core Contents Media’.

The post demanded that T-ara, not Core Contents Media, speak up on the incident, saying, ‘So is Core not going to have T-ara speak up on the outcast rumors just because it thinks no one will believe it? There are still people who believe in T-ara and so are waiting for a reply. Could you please consider it for those who are waiting?’

It then warned, ‘If T-ara continues to [stay quiet] and starts up promoting in this situation, we can’t help it if the group gains more anti-fans.’

The post also contained the message that Core Contents Media had sent the café. Core had said in the message, ‘We want to make clear one thing. As this café says clearly that it’s not a T-ara anti café, we hope the manager of this café doesn’t sway toward one opinion and makes his/her judgments neutrally, so that he/she doesn’t stray from the aim of this café.’

The notice posted two days before on August 10, titled ‘A Message from Core Contents Media’, had contained more of the message that had come from the agency.

Core Contents Media had said, ‘No matter how much we tell the truth, no one believes us, so do you think that the netizens, who have already reached their own conclusions, will believe T-ara when it tells the truth?’ It then added, ‘Even the best of friends and family can fight; don’t you think the netizens are only continuing to insult T-ara with the belief that they’re upholding the justice of society?’

The manager had added to the notice that it was ‘confirmed the message is from Core Contents Media according to a rep in Core.’

After Hwa Young’s contract was cancelled when outcast rumors blew up through the T-ara members’ social networks, Core Contents Media has tried to appease public opinion through press releases and a handwritten letter by Head CEO Kim Kwang Soo, but failed.

Members of not only Tijinyo, but also the Today’s Humor forums joined in taking actual movements against Core by gathering on August 4.

They demanded answers to the T-ara incident and a stop to school violence in one-man protests near the agency’s office building. Although T-ara cancelled its exclusive concert that was to be held on August 11, the members have been appearing in their individual dramas.

120813 Pictures of T-ara’s So Yeon in the Hospital and Crashed Van Released

New pictures of So Yeon recovering in the hospital as well as a picture of the van she was riding in have been revealed online.

So Yeon and her entourage were traveling to Busan on the expressway in a van in the early hours of August 13, when slippery conditions on the road led to the van hydroplaning and crashing into a guard rail.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency has since released a picture of the crashed van which showed just how dangerous the accident was.

The black van was severely damaged, with its front bumper lying on the road while scratches and dents marked the van’s sides and back. Some of the windows could be seen missing, presumably broken from the accident.

Core Contents Media also revealed pictures of So Yeon as she and the other accident victims continued to recover and receive treatment at the local hospital. Since the accident, So Yeon has been moved to a hospital in Gumi and the pictures shows So Yeon laying in a hospital bed while wearing a neck brace.

Though luckily avoiding any major injuries, the singer is continuing to rest and recover as she is said to be experiencing pain in her back, neck and other parts of her body and is still awaitng the results of a number of medical tests.

So Yeon has cancelled filming for her KBS drama, Haeundae Lovers today and her agency said they will continue to monitor her health and condition before deciding on when she can return to the drama set.

The police added that, had So Yeon and her entourage not worn their seat belt, the car accident would have likely added to the injuries sustained by the victims.

120812 T-ara’s Soyeon interviewed about her new drama + Hwayoung incident

The girl group T-ara has recently gotten into hot water following the alleged ‘bullying’ scandal, where evidence was presented from both sides, and the departure of Hwayoung.

During the filming of her drama, ‘Haeundae Lovers’, the Chosun Ilbo caught up with member Soyeonto talk about her current issues in life. They met at the agency office located in Seoul. Currently busy filming in her new role as ‘Gwan Soon’, she is now afraid of going out in public. “When it comes time to eat during filming, I’m afraid of the way people look at me so I can’t go into the restaurant.”

—–

Q: You’re filming your drama in the middle of a huge controversy.

A: If I hadn’t taken part in ‘Haeundae Lovers’, it would have been much harder. The directors (Song Hyun Wook, Park Jin Wook) always encouraged me, and that was a relief. My ‘father’ in the drama,Lee Jae Yong sunbaenim, as well as others also told me to be strong.

Q: Your role requires a strong Busan accent, it must be very challenging.

A: It’s like a foreign language. I like the Busan accent so I tried copying it, but it’s definitely different to do it as an actress.

Q: Have you ever seen yourself on the screen acting?

A: (shakes head) I am working very hard on acting, but the situation being as it is I’m afraid of turning on the television or going on the Internet. I should watch my acting and try to perform better, but I can’t handle it yet.

Q: Let’s get straight to the point. Was there a ‘bully’?

A: I also saw the ‘evidence’ the netizens uploaded online. I did think that if that was all they saw, the ‘bullying’ point of view could have made sense. It is true that there were negative feelings towards Hwayoung during our Tokyo concert. When Hwayoung claimed she couldn’t perform because of her leg, and when she was at the beauty shop by herself when we were practicing, there was a fight between the members. Following the performance, we told the President to handle this for us. Starting from that point, many things happened and we didn’t know that it would lead to Hwayoung’s departure.

Q: Are you saying that the members did not want Hwayoung to leave the group?

A: Not at all. We all learned about this through the articles. We were angry at our company. All we said was there was a point of conflict, so we asked them to find a solution. If Hwayoung leaves like this, the blame goes to all of us. But our President told us, “let’s do it like this for Hwayoung’s sake”. We felt very torn.

Q: The other members never left out Hwayoung? Is it true that there were rifts in your relationships?

A: There are 7-8 teenage girls in their ‘teens and twenties, all staying together. Everyone want to be famous and become recognized, so it’s impossible to have no conflicts at all. Every day, members fight and apologize, stay together and separate. It was a similar situation with Hwayoung. If you’re asking if we had bad relationships because of that, then everyone in our group has bad relationships.

Q: This is your first interview after the scandal.

A: I was very afraid and scared. But the other members will soon go into sitcom filming as well and will need to take questions from the media. I figured since it has to happen someday, I might as well be the first.

120810 People in Their 30s and 40s are More Unfriendly Toward T-ara

Written By Regina Kim on Friday, August 10, 2012 | 9:24 PM

The T-ara incident doesn’t seem to be burning as fiercely, and is now settling at a steady boil.

The group itself has cancelled its promotions, but the individual members So Yeon, Hyo Min and Eun Jung are still out on their solo ventures. So how are fans taking it? We took a look at the scores for each of the members’ dramas to gain some insight into the thoughts of their fans.

So Yeon, Hyo Min and Eun Jung are each starring in KBS2’s Haeundae Lovers, MBC’s One Thousandth Man and SBS’Five Fingers.

Members of the online café Tijinyo (We Want the Truth from T-ara) vowed they would never watch the drama, but the producers of the dramas haven’t taken any drastic measures such as forcing anyone out.

Then how is each age group reacting to the members’ appearances so soon after the T-ara incident? A glimpse is provided on the reactions of each age group through a portal site’s netizen drama scores.

Most of the public originally believed that teenagers were the ones speaking up in the T-ara incident. In reality, however, it wasn’t so.

First, let us take a look at Haeundae Lovers. A total of 2,551 people thought the drama should be given 1.1 points out of 10. Male teenagers gave 2.7, female teenagers 1.2, males in their 20s 0.4, females in their 20s 0.7, males in their 30s 0.8, females in their 30s 0.8, males 40 and above 1.8 and females 40 and above 1.1.

The scores are generally low, but compared to the other groups, the teenagers gave the highest points. The number of participants in each group also differed, as only 291 teenagers voted, compared to the 1,013 of those in their 30s and 560 of those in their 40s.

The same went for Five Fingers. Its scores averaged at 0.8 points with 1,392 votes, and male teenagers gave 1.6, female teenagers 0.8, males in their 20s 0.4, females in their 20s 0.3, males in their 30s 0.2, females in their 30s 1.2, males 40 and above 0.5 and females 40 and above 1.4.

More people in their 30s and 40s expressed their opinions through scores than teenagers, as 206 teenagers had voted compared to 510 in their 30s and 283 in their 40s.

For One Thousandth Man it was subtly different. Male teenagers gave the drama 5.0, female teenagers 3.1, males in their 20s 0.5, females in their 20s 0.0, males in their 30s 0.5, females in their 30s 0.1, males 40 and above 0.8 and females 40 and above 0.6. 158 teenagers had given out scores, while 159 people in their 30s and 97 people in their 40s had done so also.

It generally seems from these numbers that teenagers are less hostile toward the T-ara members’ appearances than those in their 30s or 40s. Although most people thought that teenagers were leading the wave against T-ara, the backlash actually came more from fans in their 30s and 40s, as they tended to give lower scores than teenagers.

Written By Regina Kim on Thursday, August 9, 2012 | 7:23 PM

After the biggest scandal of the year, several members of T-ara have continued their individual activities appearing on dramas garnering much interest from the public.

First, Soyeon starred in KBS2 ‘Haewoondae Lovers‘ as Jo Yuh Jung‘s younger sister, Lee Gwan Soon. However, Soyeon could not attend the press conference which was held on August 1st.

In contrast, Hyomin has announced that she is to attend her press conference for MBC fantasy sitcom, ‘Thousandth Man‘ this coming 14th at the MBC Dream Center in Kyungkido.

This press conference is receiving much attention as it will be the first time for a member of T-ara to come out in the public after the scandal.

Following Seoyeon and Hyomin, Eunjung will be making her appearance on SBS ‘Five Fingers‘ which will air on the 18th. And unlike Soyeon and Hyomin who were cast as supporting characters, Eunjung was cast as the main role. Eunjung will be the second to appear in front of the public through a press conference on August 16th.

Meanwhile netizens are still strongly requesting for T-ara members to be dropped out of the drama(s). Whether or not the bullying incidents were true, netizens continue to state that they do not want to see the drama that features those who were involved in such controversy. Earlier, netizens were furious to see that T-ara members were not edited out on a recent episode of MBC ‘Quiz to change the world’and KBS ‘Crisis Escape NO.1‘.

120806 T-ara JiYeon and HwaYoung hugging, "bullying explanation video revealed"

Written By Regina Kim on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 | 10:22 PM

T-ARA's 'bulling explanation' video has been revealed.
Today, a video titled, 'T-ARA Bullying Explanation' was found on Pandora TV.

In the video, Hwayoung and Jiyeon are seen dancing and hugging each other while doing volunteer work. These scenes seem to go against the 'bullying rumors' that have been going around.

The first picture is from a fan club meeting last month. In the picture, Jiyeon and Hwayoung are hugging while Hyomin was MCing the event. The second picture is when Jiyeon's father comes for a surprise visit, making Jiyeon cry. Hwayoung was seen stroking her hair and comforting her. The third picture is of Jiyeon and Hwayoung at a volunteer event. The last picture is of them at a recording and Soyeon is feeding Hwayoung snacks.

T-ARA had been accused of bullying and having problems with Hwayoung. Hwayoung was also dismissed from the group on July 30, creating much chaos and controversy.

This past Saturday, CEO Kim Kwang Soo wrote a handwritten apology to T-ARA's fans for causing this issue.

120807 Viewers criticize T-ara’s appearance on ‘Crisis Escape No.1′

T-ara once again came under fire for appearing on an entertainment show despite their recent controversy.

T-ara’s Jiyeon and Eunjung appeared on the August 6th broadcast of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Crisis Escape No.1‘.

Immediately following the broadcast, a viewers’ online bulletin board was filled with complaints in regards to T-ara’s appearance.

Some angry viewers posted comments such as, “It was uncomfortable to watch the episode that didn’t edit out the celebrities in the middle of a controversy,” “I was watching with my children but I changed the channel because T-ara came on,” and “Are you underestimating the viewers?”

On the other hand, some viewers commented, “I think the viewers are being too harsh when there is no real proof about bullying,” and “I think it was hard for them to edit it because they had already filmed it a while ago.”

Meanwhile, T-ara was also criticized for not being edited out on the August 4th episode of MBC‘s ‘Quiz to Change the World‘.

120807 Why did Jiae leave T-ara ?

T-ara's original member Hana (real name Jiae) debuted in the female duo Jevice.
In the past, she was confirmed as a member of T-ara with Eunjung, Jiyeon, Hyomin and Jiyeon and debuted with the OST "Good Person" for MBC's "Cinderella Man". However, she withdrew for personal reasons but after three years of studying she is back.

Hana (Jiae) said, "Before I debuted, I was free enjoying different music styles and band live performances and also went to Russia to experience different music. Then, through a friend, I found out and prepared to audition for a girl group."

"I felt like being in a girl group would be interesting. I thought singers are also in groups, so I could join a group to continue singing. I dreamed to be a singer and even a girl group seemed fine to me," she said.

Continued by, "When the time came closer (to debut) there were restraints. I wanted to try a lot of music styles and show different colors, but I felt like the music we would do in the group was not what I wanted."

"When the group came out (T-ara) it was hard to endure because I was a kid still, I didn't know what the future would hold for me and it was hard to think about," she said, "Now that I'm in a group that focuses more on vocals and I can try various musical styles. It's fun and not what I expected. I'm free to do whatever styles I want."

The other member of the group, Juri, debuted as a soloist in 2009.

120807 T-ara’s Eun Jung and Ji Yeon Continue to Appear on TV

Eun Jung and Ji Yeon appeared like any other guests, learning about the accidents that can threaten people’s lives in everyday situations and imitating the teeth exercise they were taught on the show.

In just an hour after the broadcast ended, however, the program’s viewer boards were bombarded with more 1,000 posts containing viewer complaints. Netizens said, ‘Do you think it’s right for those at the center of a controversy to appear in a broadcast when the problem hasn’t been solved yet?’, ‘Shouldn’t they come on after the problem’s been solved?’, ‘Why did they conclude their promotions, anyway?’, ‘They have a “will” to fight with the viewers’ and ‘The producers are the problem; they ignore viewer opinions.’

MBC’s Quiz to Change the World also went through a similar ordeal after the two had appeared on its August 4 broadcast with new member Ah Reum, and was especially hit hard by Tijinyo’s protests.

The T-ara incident seems to be far from reaching a conclusion, as Core Contents Media continues to issue appeasing press releases, yet has T-ara appear on broadcasts as scheduled.

120804 T-ara’s Jiyeon appears on variety show for first time after scandal

T-ara‘s Jiyeon made an appearance on the August 4th broadcast of MBC‘s ‘Quiz to Change the World‘, capturing the attention of many viewers.

Despite the recent controversies surrounding T-ara’s scandal, Jiyeon seemed indifferent as she displayed a bright and cheerful attitude throughout the show.

Specifically, as singer Mun Ja Ran showed off her aegyo doing the famous “bbuing bbuing“, MC Lee Hwee Jae asked Jiyeon to assist Ja Ran with her aegyo. Jiyeon happily complied as she put her fists next to her cheeks and chanted “bbuing bbuing” and melted the hearts of the other guests.
